The 100TWh citizens’ movement wants the new government to adopt a nuclear strategy in its programme.

The citizen movement 100TWh ASBL-VZW would like to remind you that citizens have clearly expressed their opposition to dogmatic green policies. While they support measures to reduce CO2 emissions, they do not want these to destroy the well-being of our society as a whole.

For 100TWh, this means that nuclear power must remain an essential component of Belgium’s energy mix. This vision is also widely shared by the population, since the latest opinion poll on these issues showed that more than 80% of the population supports this technology.

Given this situation, 100TWh hopes that 4 priorities will be included in the new government’s programme :

1) repeal of the Deleuze nuclear phase-out law of 2003 ;

2) life extension for all Belgian nuclear reactors, for as long as possible. Only the agreement of the FANC/AFCN is required for this, because their operation could be entrusted to an operator other than French gas company Engie ;

3) the launch of the project to build a new large nuclear unit in Belgium to replace the reactors that cannot be extended ;

4) promoting nuclear research and innovation in Belgium.

Finally, to ensure the stability needed by investors, 100TWh recommends the establishment of a permanent Council of Experts to serve Parliament, independent of lobbies of any kind, to help politicians make the wisest energy mix choices in the interests of consumers and society as a whole.

You will find details of these proposals in the attached document : FR / NL
