Retrospective 2025

This page presents the 2025 retrospective in chronological order, highlighting key events related to nuclear energy, energy policy, grid stability, and the activities of the 100TWh association.
21/12/2025

Black-out in California, which has been carefully hidden by the mainstream media’s. 100TWh notes an intriguing correlation between the percentage variable renewables in an energy mix of a region and the probability of blackout…

14/12/2025

Flamanville 3 EPR reaches for the first time 100% of its 1.669 MW of electrical power.

01/12/2025

Definitive shutdown of Doel 2 nuclear plant. In 2025, Belgium was now the 5th importer of electricity in EU. It will be worse in 2026.

13/11/2025

COP30 issued the “Declaration on Information Integrity on Climate Change”, setting out shared international commitments to combat climate misinformation and promote accurate, evidence-based information.

06/10/2025

Belgium just connected 400 MWh of battery storage, the first half of the soon-to-be largest battery on the European mainland (the project Engie develops with battery developer Sungrow aims to build a 200 MW / 800 MWh energy storage system). According to the 100TWh energy simulation model, a battery park, of any dimensions, doesn’t help the Belgian electricity grid.

01/10/2025

Definitive shutdown of Tihange 1 nuclear plant.

13/09/2025

Ursula Von Der Leyen declared “we need to generate more homegrown renewables – with nuclear as a baseload”. That is exactly what 100TWh is claiming since its creation.

12/09/2025

Four members of the 100TWh association submitted a complaint against the demolition of the cooling towers at Tihange 1 and Tihange 2. These installations are part of the energy heritage of Belgian society, and it is not normal for a foreign company to demolish them when it is no longer obliged to do so. Moreover, this demolition goes against the government's intention to extend 4 GW of nuclear power, of which these towers are a part.

Of course, Engie-Electrabel claims that these installations cannot be recovered, and that no operator would want to take them over. But the 100TWh citizens' movement, in association with other companies, is still waiting to be able to create a Mankala cooperative to take over these installations, which are in excellent condition, offer an unrivalled level of safety and are particularly profitable because they are fully depreciated.

For the first time, pro-nuclear movements, like 100TWh, are presented as the REAL environmentalists by Matthew Dalton (Wall Street Journal). This complaint has been followed by the administration of Huy, the commune hosting 3 Belgian nuclear reactors.

10/09/2025

Court of Justice of the European Union rejects Austria's complaint. It confirmed that nuclear energy can be considered “environmentally sustainable” under the EU's green taxonomy.

09/09/2025

100TWh conference on “Nuclear power revival”: first public presentation of the 100TWh White Electricity concept, where cheap nuclear electricity will deliver the customer’s baseload.

01/09/2025

According to a recent study from the Wood McKenzie experts, the total cost of offshore wind energy is 230 $/MWh. The total cost of floating offshore energy is 320 $/MWh. The full system costs calculated by the Bank of America (LFSCOE) are even higher. At 100TWh, we are happy that international experts take over our idea that renewables have to carry their “backpack” when delivering electricity on the grid.

24/07/2025

Timmermans accused of providing billions EU funding to lobbying NGOs. Under his responsibility as European Commissioner, the European Commission is alleged to have secretly transferred millions of euros to climate organisations. The aim: to put pressure on national governments, parliamentarians and public opinion — in favour of European climate plans.

28/06/2025

Debunking fake news about nuclear energy. In an article, BFM Business relayed the false information that 26 French reactors will be shutdown due to draughty weather. This proved to be wrong, because 14 of them are refrigerated by sea water, and don’t risk being concerned by weather conditions. The fact check revealed that only 6 power plants were concerned: BUG, BLA, CHO, GOL, SAL, TRI.

14/06/2025

According to the EURATOM treaty, art. 40, a study of the needs for nuclear power in 2050 has been published (PINC). For this institution, the nuclear capacity in the EU should pass from 98 GW in 2025 to 109 GW in 2050. For 100TWh, this is far too low to meet our industrial and social needs for low-carbon electricity.

15/05/2025

Belgian Parliament votes to suppress the nuclear phase-out law in Belgium, a decision that 100TWh expected since its creation. On the same day, the Danish Parliament launched an official analysis of nuclear energy, which was de facto the end of the ban on nuclear energy in Denmark.

28/04/2025

Huge Spanish blackout. After 6 months of investigation it appears that it has been caused by a photovoltaic power plant of 500 MW: the Iberdola plant of Núñez de Balboa. This has been hidden by ENTSO-E in its report on this event.

19/03/2025

100TWh published a study on the Future of Nuclear Energy in the EU. Over the last few decades, almost all efforts have been concentrated on non-dispatchable intermittent renewable energies (mainly solar and wind), but with results that have fallen short of expectations.

Nowadays, the European public and authorities are once again turning to nuclear power generation, as are many other countries around the world. But many questions remain: does nuclear power today offer sufficient guarantees in terms of safety and security? Is it cost-competitive? Is it as environmentally friendly as possible? Are technological and regulatory improvements available to enable large-scale redeployment? Are there solutions for guaranteeing the long-term supply of nuclear reactors, recycling spent fuel and managing final waste? As explained in the study, the answers are encouraging.

14/03/2025

Vincent Verbeke, CEO of Engie, declares that Engie doesn’t anymore exclude continuing to be a Belgian nuclear operator. This happened the same day when Luminus / EDF announced that they were ready to take over the existing Belgian nuclear reactors.

25/02/2025

Thanks to the new Minister of Energy, Mathieu Bihet, Belgium is now a full member of the EU Nuclear Alliance.

12/02/2025

The Spanish Parliament voted to allow nuclear reactors to continue operating.

01/02/2025

Definitive shutdown of Doel 1 nuclear plant.

23/01/2025

Joint Conference 100TWh - FABI on “Tihange 1, (im)possible prolonguation?” and starting of the Tihange 1 Mankala Cooperative Project.
