You will find attached the article on blackouts published by our regretted member, Ernest Mund, Professor Emeritus at UCL, on 7 January 2022 in the journal Science, Climate and Energy.
In his article, he claimed that the electricity system would undergo a major transformation with the massive arrival of Intermittent Renewable Energies (IRE), which have no inertia at all.
As a result, the robustness of the electricity system in the wake of external events was set to decline sharply, as these IRE’s would gradually replace the controllable means that had protected us from blackouts for decades.
He predicted that disruptions would indeed occur, without being able to determine their frequency.
The blackout of 28/04/2025 is the beginning of the disruptions’ period he announced.
